I was wondering if there are any limitations as to how far back from the tranny a drive shaft loop may be installed. I am trying to put one on my 1977 Chevy short bed truck but the only good mounting spot I see is the stock mounting location of the carrier bearing. I do not have a carrier bearing since I have a one-piece drive shaft but was worried about it being too far back to pass inspection.

No, if you run slower than a 8.59 in 1/8 or 13.99 1/4 you don't have to have a loop no matter what tire you have. You can run down to 7.35 with street tires and not have a loop.

You know, I can't find that rule in the I.H.R.A. rule book either. All I can find is the same as N.H.R.A.

You know, I can't find that rule in the I.H.R.A. rule book either. All I can find is the same as N.H.R.A. i believe its in the class regs i dont have my book here with me (its at the track) but i do remember that it was specified as being required for any vehicle with a slick. they may have revised that for 2007, but as a track rule it would still apply due to saftey concerns. i will be at the track 2marrow and i will review ihra specs

It may be a track rule, but in general reg. it reads just like N.H.R.A. i do believe that IRA rule changed from years past. our tech director was telling about the all slick rule a few years ago, i will ask him about it, the track ule still in effect but ya know a $40 saftey item can save hundreds in repair.

Guys yes IHRA is different, page 112 top of page. 2007 Book Drive shaft loop required on all entries running 13.99 1/4 or 8.59 1/8 or quicker that utilizes slicks. drive shaft loop mandatory on street tires at 11.49 1/4 or 7.35 1/8 or quicker. hope this helps Bobby

Alan is this a nhra finals or ihra finals race. I think it is a nhra race so the nhra rules must be used RIGHT.
