i briefly discussed it with andy last saturday. what would be involved to get the jr's racing earlier in the day? i'm sure car count would affect it, but everyone would be done earlier in the evening. i'm sure the big cars would like it as they wouldn't have to wait on us. we would have more staging lanes. it was so nice having the extra lanes at the KOT race. the kids are in bed by dark thirty. it's harder on the lil kids staying up that much later. just wondering. not trying to piss anyone off. besides, it's cool to have something in this forum for a change. ;D that's the bad part of the off season. it gives boneheads like me time to think! scary, eh?

I agree and I don't have a kid in a jr. yet. I'm thinking of safety reasons also. Jr's are hard to see sometimes at night. That's my 2 cents worth!

Thanks for the suggestions!!
There are a lot of things to consider on starting early.
First, how early do you start?? How many cars do we need to justify opening early?? We have to take into consideration of the cost factor....Ambulance, employees is a major cost factor!!
Second, Depending on how early we start will raise another safety issue...If the gates are open the racers will show up and pull into the pits with their trailers and tow rigs which will make it even more difficult to see the JR's..
So do we close the gates to everyone but the JR's??
Will this cause chaos at the ticket window?? Will it cause drivers to arrive late??
There is no simple answer, but Darrell and I will discuss it from a financial stand point and from a racer's and parents stand point and make the best decision for all involved!!
Keep the suggestions coming!! Thanks, Andy........

Hi, all.
I really like the suggestion about starting earlier. It would be good for us (selfish, I know) coming from Granbury. We'd be able to race at WRP more often and not worry about getting back home at 2 AM, or later.
What they do at Kennedale is to close the gates and not allow the big cars in to the track until the scheduled time to open for the big cars. I understand some logistic issues, though, in that Kennedale has significantly more room in their "holding area" (and in NO way, shape or form am I belittling WRP). Yes, there ARE times when there is an "overlap" between the Jr's and the big cars. In those cases EVERYONE has to exercise a little more additional caution: the Jr drivers need to come up the return road at a slower speed and the big cars need to be a little more patient. I race a big car and know how badly I want to get my car out of the trailer and warmed up and the pits set up. I'm also a Jr parent and have HAD a close call (I just KNEW the front of my son's dragster was going to get run over. Bradleigh had his dragster teetering on 2 wheels, I think, to have avoided disaster). The key, I think, is that we all work together and all have a clear understanding of what the game plan is, what is required of the Jr racers and what is expected of the big car racers.

The only negative thing with running the Juniors early I see is exposure. There would be less people there (spectators and people with other racers) and potentially less people that would gain the interest and get their kids a car.

possibly, i'm not saying it has to be real early. i thought it mite be nice to have a couple of rounds done when the big cars start TT. it really doesn't make a lot of difference for us. basically just a "what if" discussion. and it's cool to see something going on in the sugestion box. i suggest that we suggest suggesting something new in the suggestion box. say that 10 times fast!!!! l8r

OK.....I can't stand it any more! I need to toss my 2-cents into the mix.
I think it would be nice to have at least 30-minutes between runs. Long enough where the cars can get refueled without having to run alongside and be pouring fuel in while the kids are pushing up, to let the motors cool down and maybe get a cold drink and use the restroom. Ideally, I'd like to see 45-minutes. And, in all reality, the kids can be split up into two groups [8-11 years old, and 12-17 years old] to help the track out and make the 'down time' actually less.
IF things can be kept moving, by the time the big cars get ready to run TT, we Jr's could be ready for eliminations. I think THAT might facilitate some of the exposure for the program by being all ready for the "real deal" after the big guys make their first pass.

It is hard for some people to get to the track early when you have to work on Saturday. If everyone would tow their JR back, no one would get run over. It is funny that when you call the Juniors up to race, they are all up there in 5 minutes, ready to go, where the Big Cars are always late. You say the Juniors take more time, but it appears we are always waiting on the Big Cars. The Juniors like to watch the Big Cars race as well. We can all work together as a team to be safe in the pits. Lets have fun racing!

PERSONALLY A COUPLE OF HOURS CANT HURT ANYTHING AND ITS ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT YOU DONT KNOW TILL YOU TRY SOMETHING NEW ..IF WE COULD START AND HAVE TIME TRIALS OVER BY THE TIME THE BIG CARS START SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD ONE ..WOULD ONLY BE A COUPLE OF HRS OR SO ..AND NOT LET BIG CARS PARK TILL WE ARE ON COOL DOWN TIME WHICH WOULD BE IN THE 45 MIN BETWEEN RD'S ...WE HAVE A SET OF NEW GATES THAT ARE IN THE ROAD NOW WE COULD CLOSE TILL WE WERE READY TO LET THE BIG CARS IN ..PROBLEM IS IT WILL TAKE A PERSON TO GO OPEN THE GATES BACK UP WHEN WE ARE READY TO PARK BIG CARS AND CLOSE THE GATES WHILE J/R ARE RUNNING AROUND AND HELP AROUND THE TRACK IS SLIM ..IF YOU DONT HAVE SOMEONE WATCH THE GATE IT WILL DO NO GOOD TO TRY TO POLICE BIG CARS COMING IN TO PARK ..ONE OTHER PROBLEM IS ALL THE J/RS ARE GOING TO GET ALL THE CONCRETE PARKING BEING THEY ARE GETTING THERE 2 TO 3 HRS EARLIER THAN THE BIG CARS INSTEAD OF FIRST COME FIRST SERVE ON PARKING ..BUT I BET WE CAN WORK SOMETHING OUT

hey dixon, welcome to the conversation from 2 years ago, hehe. there are pros and cons to both times. when we first discussed it in '05, we didnt have the car count to justify it. i have personally had some close calls with big car towing the jr's back as well. i usually work saturdays so i know what it is like. sometimes we barely make it in time. but we done have to drive an hour like ya'll do. some of the races get a lil crazy running so late. then sometimes we load after 2nd rd and get home REEEEAAAALLLL early. then sometimes you get to the track and no one else shows up to race, like this wknd. we ran 2 or 3 time onlys, loaded early, then went to ihop. but we got home early enuff to get a bunch done on the upstairs bathroom. if we start the quick class next year, it's gonna be a whole lot later yet, when we get done.
